USS ARIZONA MEMORIAL At 8.06am on 7 December 1941, the USS Arizona was hit by an 800-kilogram armour- piercing bomb. The catastrophic explosion that resulted sank the massive battleship in nine minutes, killing 1,177 crewmen. Today, it is possible to visit the USS Arizona Memorial to learn about this historic attack and pay respects to the brave soldiers who fell that day. Begin at the Visitor Center and then take a boat-shuttle to the USS Arizona Memorial - a oating memorial built over the sunken hull of the Battleship USS Arizona. BATTLESHIP MISSOURI MEMORIAL General Macarthur accepted the unconditional Japanese surrender that ended WWII on 2 September 1945 on the Surrender Deck of the Battleship Missouri. Now located at Pearl Harbor's historic Battleship Row, the massive "Mighty Mo" is a living museum, with exhibits spanning three wars and ve decades of service. Explore the decks of this 54,000-tonne battleship, three football elds long and 20 storeys tall. Take a tour and get special access to restricted areas. USS BOWFIN SUBMARINE MUSEUM & PARK The USS Bow n took part in the war in the Paci c during World War II. Today, visitors can explore the 3,000 square metre submarine museum to learn about the battle under the seas and tour the interactive gun and torpedo exhibits. Step below deck on this authentic submarine, and tour the torpedo room, engine room and claustrophobic sleeping quarters. DISCOVER HAWAI‘I 49 Display in the Pacifc Aviation Museum. Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA) / John DeMello PEARL HARBOR COMPRISES FIVE HISTORIC SITES: PACIFIC AVIATION MUSEUM Located within former WWII aeroplane hangars on Pearl Harbor's Ford Island, the Paci c Aviation Museum is an immersive aviation exhibition complete with interactive simulators and displays showcasing the stories behind authentic WWII ghter planes and bombers. USS OKLAHOMA MEMORIAL Dedicated on 7 December 2007, the USS Oklahoma Memorial honours the 429 crewmen who lost their lives on this warship in the Pearl Harbor attack. Approximately nine torpedoes hit the vessel, capsizing the 31,000-tonne battleship in only 12 minutes. Some crewmen were trapped in compartments below deck after the ship capsized. They used hammers and wrenches to signal to rescue crews on the surface and two days after the attack, 32 men were rescued from the overturned hull of the Oklahoma.
